Chemical Conversion
Chemical films are gelatinous films used to provide corrosion protection to aluminum alloys. The coating also improves adhesion of subsequent coatings such as paint and powder coat. Chemical film is a cost effective substitute for anodizing when abrasion resistance is not needed; it also has the benefit of maintaining electrical conductivity which anodizing will not.
